When Floridian Dave Herrero came to Chicago via Austin, Texas in 2004, his musical education and credentials were impressive. He’d been deeply in uenced by the music of the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Muddy Waters, Albert King and others, had played with the cream of the Austin blues community, co-founded the Blues Society of Austin, and toured eastern Europe with Archie Bell and the Drells as their guitarist.
He had self produced a CD titled Hard Life Blues, and once in Chicago, Dave joined up with his brother, hip- hop producer Mike Hero, and with old friend, guitarist and songwriter, Felix Reyes, to turn out Dave’s second album, Austin to Chicago, which stylishly displayed his understanding of the musical traditions of Texas blues and his adopted Chicago blues.
Dave and his brother started TrackForce Productions which created music for Harpo Productions (The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Dr. Oz Show, Tyra Banks and others). Among other recent accomplish- ments, he produced Jimmy Burns’ CD, Stuck in the Middle (Velrone, 2011), has played bass, arranged and toured with singer Nikki Hill, is working on a mixed-genre project with Anne Harris (of the Otis Taylor Band), and is working on a new album with the Austin, TX based rock n’ roll band, The Texas Cannonballs. This guy doesn’t sit still.
He has also found time to play solo as well as with the Hero Brothers Band, and his latest recording is Corazón, a new release that seamlessly blends psychedelia, blues, rock n’ roll, and original music.
