Guitarist and vocalist Mr. Sipp, “The Mississippi Blues Child,” was born Castro Coleman (by which name he has previously appeared on these stages) in 1976 and raised in McComb, Mississippi. He has been making music since the age of six and burst onto the blues scene after winning the 2014 International Blues Challenge in Memphis and taking Top Guitarist recognition at the competition as well. Previously he had been a very successful gospel performer.
Each of the bands he has performed within particular the gospel quartets of The Williams Brothers and The True Believers, plus his powerhouse group Highly Favored has contributed to the development of his unique musical style. Coleman’s lead guitar work with The Williams Brothers earned him two Grammy nominations. He and his band Highly Favored were sought after for their kinetic stage shows and a modern sound that was billed as “contemporary gospel.”
Signed by Malaco Records, Coleman issued Time Out in 2009. In 2013, switching to blues, he recorded the self-produced, It’s My Guitar and followed with Mississippi Blues Child in 2015 on Malaco to enthusiastic reviews.
